As I was introduced to “another” construction technology aimed at me, I again realized the humbling but mighty responsibility and obligation facing the UCHardChip team. The market is brewing with products claiming to solve real-life issues at the face of the work by providing the “office” with new automated data advantages.
Let me make one point about solving the real problem (and yielding a real ROI): the technology has to suit the men and women I have the opportunity to build with, who have to work “hands free”. As a development community for construction innovations, we first need to take into account and recognize that the most vital asset on a construction project, is and always will be for some time to come the individual construction worker!
When vetting construction solutions, I ask for all decision makers to consider the potential psychological objections and unintended negative consequences for the craftsmen and craftswomen who are confronted by things that they don’t understand, things which they suspect will eliminate their job, but also inhibit their performance. Those fears and tribulations create a sense of despair at a time we need all hands-on-deck to compensate for a shrinking workforce.
I would strongly suggest you innovators, developers and decision-makers think about US!
